The Most Expensive Gasoline, Lincoln’s 6th Birthday and Visiting with Grammy & Family!
A cross country road-trip is not complete without a visit with Family and Friends! In So-Cal, that means Grammy, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins! Our first stop is Temecula.
We are on a 7,000 mile Great American Road trip. You can catch up on our last post Joshua Tree – Jumbo Boulder Parkour and Skull Rock! here.
The Drive to Temecula from Joshua Tree
Crossing into Temecula Valley from Joshua Tree is a familiar drive. I have lived in these parts for years and the roads, very familiar.
Gas Madness!
With nearly 3,500 miles under our belt, Gasoline is our main expense.
Our gas costs have been steadily rising as we drive further and further West. We started at around $3.50 per gallon in Georgia and now crossing into Southern California, we are at the MOST EXPENSIVE GASOLINE YET! At nearly $6.29 per gallon, it costs nearly $125 to fill up a tank of the ol’ Sequoia!

Lake Skinner Campground
In Temecula, we stayed at Lake Skinner. Lake Skinner is home to the Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival. During our stay, it is very quiet. Our campsite had a view of the Lake.
Lake Skinner Splash Pad
Great for the Kiddos at Lake Skinner, is an excellent Splashpad and playground. Open Tuesday through Sunday 10 AM – 6 PM.
Visiting with Grammy!
My grandma is almost 90 years old and still sharp as a tack. We spent time visiting with her each day, and making time to visit the cousins.
We Celebrated Lincoln’s Birthday at nearly every place we went and it feels like we have been doing this for about a month now. We are grateful to have such considerate family … and he loves it!
You’ll notice Grammy is the recurring theme in all these photos. The boys got to spend lots of time with her. Aunt Windy, was instrumental in keeping us organized and ensuring that we made the most of our time, a most welcome experience.
With a great visit to Temecula behind us, we head off to Los Angeles!
